How Much Does Furnace Installation Cost in New Jersey?

Posted On January 14, 2026 Uncategorized

Intro: Understanding Furnace Installation Costs in NJ (2026 Update)

In New Jersey, the necessity to have a working furnace during winter is not a luxury, but a necessity. However, before purchasing the new one or upgrading the old one, it is natural to think, How much would it cost to install a furnace in New Jersey?

The average cost of a full furnace installation is between $3,500 and $8,500 in NJ, although the prices depend on the type of installation, its efficiency, and the amount of labor required to install. This will all depend on the kind of furnace you are installing (gas, oil, or electric), the size of your house, and the complexity of your installation.

We will see what influences prices and how you may get the best of your money.

Average Furnace Installation Cost in New Jersey (2026)

In New Jersey, the average cost of installing a furnace is between $3,500 and $8,500. Most homes spend about $5,500 on a mid-efficiency model.
Here’s a quick comparison table for 2026:

Furnace Type Average Installed Cost (NJ) Energy Efficiency (AFUE)
Gas Furnace $4,000 – $7,500 80% – 98%
Oil Furnace $5,000 – $8,500 80% – 95%
Electric Furnace $3,000 – $6,000 95% – 100%

Pro Tip: Gas furnaces usually cost more up front, but they are usually cheaper to run over time because fuel costs less.

What Affects the Cost of a New Furnace?

Several factors determine how much you’ll pay for furnace installation in NJ:

  1. Furnace Type (Gas, Oil, or Electric)
    • Gas furnaces are the most common type of furnace in New Jersey because they are both efficient and cheap.
    • Oil furnaces work well in older homes or homes in rural areas that don’t have natural gas lines.
    • Installing electric furnaces is cheaper, but they may cost more to run when it’s cold.

Explore Delco Heating & Cooling’s Gas Furnace Services and Oil Furnace Services for more details.

  2. Home Size and Furnace Capacity
The larger your home, the more BTUs your furnace must produce.

    • 1,200 sq. ft. home → 40,000–60,000 BTU
    • 2,000 sq. ft. home → 80,000–100,000 BTU
    • Larger or older homes with poor insulation may need higher capacity systems.
  3. Efficiency Rating (AFUE %)
A furnace’s Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating measures how much fuel turns into heat.

    • 80% AFUE = Budget-friendly but less efficient
    • 90–98% AFUE = High-efficiency, lower long-term costs

Higher efficiency furnaces cost more upfront but can save up to 30% on energy bills.

  4. Ductwork and Installation Complexity
In case your duct system requires repairs, resizing, or cleaning, it might increase the cost of the installation process by about 500 to 2,000. Homes that lack the ducts may require ductless systems or mini split systems.
  5. Brand and Warranty Options
The prices of the best brands of furnaces, such as Trane, Lennox, Carrier, and Goodman, differ depending on the features and the warranty. For peace of mind, Delco Heating & Cooling will provide a five-year warranty on all parts, labor repairs, and installations.

Cost Breakdown by Furnace Type

Gas Furnace Installation Cost in NJ

Installing a gas furnace usually costs between $4,000 and $7,500.

Things to think about: setting up the fuel line, venting, and the efficiency rating.
Best for: Homes that already have gas lines and want reliable, efficient heating.

Oil Furnace Installation Cost in NJ

If you need to replace or install a new oil furnace, expect to pay between $5,000 and $8,500.

Things to think about: where to put the tank, how to vent it, and which brand to choose.
Best for: Homes that need a lot of heat but can’t get gas.

Electric Furnace Installation Cost in NJ

Installation costs between $3,000 and $6,000, and the equipment is cheap and easy to set up.

Best for: Homes that are smaller or have extra heating systems.
Keep in mind that electric heat may cost more each month, depending on the price of electricity.

When to Replace Instead of Repair

Do you need to fix your old furnace or get a new one?
Here are some clear signs that it’s time to get a new one:

  • The furnace is 15–20 years old
  • Frequent repairs exceeding $1,000 per year
  • Inconsistent heating or rising utility costs
  • Cracked heat exchanger or rust buildup

If your system still has life left, explore Delco Heating & Cooling’s Furnace Repair Services for fast, affordable solutions.

Ways to Save on Furnace Installation

Here’s how NJ homeowners can make furnace installation more affordable:

  • Check for local rebates: NJ Clean Energy Program may offer rebates for ENERGY STAR furnaces.
  • Seasonal promotions: Fall and spring often offer cheaper installation times.
  • Financing options: Spread your payments over manageable monthly plans.
  • Maintenance plans: Regular tune-ups extend system life and prevent costly repairs.

“Delco Heating & Cooling are the best hvac and plumbers in New Jersey”

My hot water tank cracked last night and flooded my basement I called Delco Heating & Cooling because they fixed my air conditioning over the summer. The technician got here at 5pm and explained to me how although the crack is an area of in-repair he can schedule replacement Monday or check to see if they had my style hot water heater in their inventory and offered to replace it on the spot the same day and I was shocked that they would offer that level of service and I accepted and he had the replacement done by 10pm and was cleaned up and had the old hot water tank out of my home by 10:30 and me and my wife would recommend them to anyone literally
